First, an apology to those of you who may have logged into the April meeting for a discussion of The Beach. There was a snafu at our end, and we are very sorry that the meeting did not go forward as planned. If some of your from the April meeting would like to devote time for a brief discussion of The Beach, we will happily do so before turning to our May selection.
Our virtual book club is open to all! Its theme in 2021 is The Traveler’s World and features books on travel or adventure narratives. We’re lucky to have Beth Ahlstrom, a former World Affairs Council Tacoma board member and seasoned international traveler, as our host.
Our book club selection this month is Tracks: A Woman’s Solo Trek Across 1700 Miles of Australian Outback, by Robyn Davidson. Davidson opens the memoir of her journey across 1,700 miles of hostile Australian desert to the sea with only four camels and a dog for company with the following words: “I experienced that sinking feeling you get when you know you have conned yourself into doing something difficult and there's no going back." Join us for a discussion of her remarkable odyssey.
Members have had luck ordering from these less expensive vendors: thriftbooks.com and betterworldbooks.com.
PLEASE NOTE: The link to the Zoom meeting for this event is in a confirmation email you will receive upon RSVPing. Please make sure to check your email inbox for this confirmation - including your spam folders! Your confirmation email will come from administrator@wactacoma.com - Thanks!
