Our virtual book club is open to all!  Its theme until 2021 is The Traveler’s World and features books on travel or adventure narratives. We’re lucky to have Beth Ahlstrom, a former World Affairs Council Tacoma board member and seasoned international traveler, as our host.

Our next selection is From Heaven Lake, by Vikram Seth.

Winner of the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award, it is the author’s first popular success. After two years as a postgraduate student at Nanjing University in China, Seth hitch-hiked back to his home in New Delhi, via Tibet.  From Heaven Lake is the story of his remarkable journey and his encounters with nomadic Muslims, Chinese officials, Buddhists and others. “Wry, observant and delightfully written,” it remains one of Seth’s most beloved works.

Please note the date—November 19. Typically book club meets on the last Thursday of the month. Since that date falls on Thanksgiving, we chose to move our meeting up a week. However, the book is short, so take heart! Members have had luck ordering from these less expensive vendors: thriftbooks.com and betterworldbooks.com.
