Our virtual book club is open to all! Its theme until 2021 is The Traveler’s World and features books on travel or adventure narratives. We’re lucky to have Beth Ahlstrom, a former World Affairs Council Tacoma board member and seasoned international traveler, as our host.
Our next selection is West with the Night, Beryl Markham’s lyrically written memoir that Ernest Hemingway touted as a "bloody wonderful book." "This girl," he said, "can write rings around all of us who consider ourselves as writers." Markham was a Brit raised in Kenya, who in 1936 became the first person to fly the Atlantic solo from England to North America. In 2004, National Geographic Adventure ranked the book number eight in a list of 100 best adventure books. Join us on October 29 from 7pm to 8pm while we decide for ourselves if Hemingway was right!
